In 1992, the YETC purchased the Video Encyclopedia of the 20th Century, produced by CEL Educational Resources. It is a laserdisc collection of 2338 videos, on 42 laserdiscs, excellently catalogued and cross-referenced. At the time, it was touted as a definitive collection of motion picture film and video recording the social, political and cultural history of the 20th century.
One disheartening aspect of technology is that it grows old quickly. The content of those laserdiscs are still as educationally sound and worthwhile as when the product was first purchased. However, laserdiscs are rarely used anymore - a dead technology. The YETC made an effort to contact CEL and update our purchase, but cannot locate them, and assume that the business no longer exists. We then decided to convert the laserdiscs to current technology - here as MPEG 4 videos - to still be able to use this wonderful product while we still had a working laserdisc player.
