Goal 1: What is Microsoft Excel?
Excel is a Microsoft program used to create spreadsheets. Spreadsheets are documents organized as a big table made up of rows and columns. To the right is a screenshot to give you the basic idea. You can click anywhere on the spreadsheet and enter information into a square. Each square is called a cell. Each cell has an address. The address is the column letter followed by the row number. For example, the address of the green cell in the image on the right is A1. But one of the best functionalities of Excel is that this software has pre-programmed formulas that will add, subtract, multiply, divide, find percentages, and more automatically for you, making this a powerful tool for accounting, businesses, goal planning, budgeting, and more. Excel is also a great tool for teachers to use in their classrooms (Goal 3 goes into more detail on this). |
