What are eBooks? How do I access and use them?
An "eBook" is an electronic version of a printed book that can be read on a computer or handheld device designed specifically for this purpose. They can be easily accessed or stored on your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. You can literally store an entire library of books on a flash drive or hard drive. There are millions of eBooks available online - most of the free ones are public domain or no longer have copyright restrictions on them. One popular handheld device currently is Amazon.com's Kindle. Amazon.com has a huge library of eBooks that can be downloaded and read on Kindles or the Kindle apps for your smartphone, tablet, and computer. Kindle books need the Kindle or Kindle application in order to read them on your device. The Kindle apps are free to download and use, but you need an Amazon.com account to use them. Another popular eBook format is "epub." EPUB is an e-book file format that uses the ".epub" file extension. The term is short for electronic publication and is sometimes styled ePub. EPUB is supported by many e-readers, and compatible software is available for most smartphones, tablets, and computers. Many eBooks can be downloaded as Adobe PDF files as well. (You can use Adobe Acrobat Reader or Adobe Digital Editions to read these files.) How to read Open EPUB or Open PDF ebooks on a computer
